Box Types

Abox
The most widely used standard corrugated box type in the FEFCO family; a standard full-flap/slotted box form.
Full Cover
A box type with a separate, independent top cover that fully covers the box.

One Flap
A box type with a single-piece flap for a simpler, faster closing mechanism.
Telescopic
A box type where the base and lid are two separate pieces that fit over one another (like a shoebox).

Die-Cut Box
A non-rectangular box type cut to a custom shape (die-cut) for the specific product.
Triplex
A triple-wall (double-fluted) structure offering the highest strength, suited for heavy loads and large volumes.
What Is Corrugated Cardboard? A Guide to Flute Types
Corrugated cardboard is a lightweight yet durable packaging material made of flat paper layers with a fluted (wavy) paper layer sandwiched between them. The shape and thickness of the flute layer directly affects the box's load-bearing strength, impact resistance, and print quality — so choosing the right flute type is important for the box to perform well for its intended use.
| Flute Type | Approximate Thickness | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|
| A Flute | ~4.5–5 mm | The thickest flute structure; high vertical compression strength and good shock/impact absorption. |
| C Flute | ~3.5–4 mm | A balance between A and B flutes; the most commonly used flute type for shipping boxes. |
| B Flute | ~2.5–3 mm | Low profile, smooth print surface; preferred for die-cut and inner packaging boxes. |
| E Flute | ~1.5–2 mm | Thin micro-flute; used in retail/gift boxes requiring a smooth print surface. |
| BC Flute (Double Wall) | ~6–7 mm | A combination of B and C flutes; provides high strength for heavy-load and stacking shipments. |
The FEFCO codes used in our product groups are a standard coding system developed by the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers, defining the box type/shape (e.g. full-cover box, telescopic box) with a common international reference. This allows the box type to be communicated clearly and consistently within the industry and in international trade.
